• Last-minute nerves, and NOT MUCH SLEEP!

12 August at 07:14 from atlas

That's likely to be the case with many of the athletes due to compete over the next 10 days in Rio, especially those youngsters without the experience of such a major meeting and the hype that goes with the Olympic Games.

Down here in New Zealand we're 17 hours ahead of Brazil, so won't have too much disruption to our sleep patterns in being able to follow the daily events.

With a very comprehensive TV coverage promised, and the IAAF Radio plus website, I for one will thoroughly enjoy these Games - even although I've been watching other sports for the past week. Athletics is THE sport for me!

The IAAF's editorial team have set the scene for Day 1, in highlighting the women's Heptathlon, while alluding to the clash in the women's Shot - I'm obviously going to be hoping that Valerie Adams returns to form and GOLD?
