• HIGHER and HIGHER - with and without a POLE!

6 February at 08:15 from atlas

The German indoor scene was abuzz, twice, during this past week.

Firstly,  in Dusseldorf, the ever-precocious Mondo Duplantis started the year by clearing a world-leading 6.00 m, then had the temerity to attempt 6.17 m, one centimetre above the existing world indoor (and ultimate) record - his second try was very close - check out the video : perhaps he can supplant Sergey Bubka's 6.14 m outdoor world record before the Tokyo Olympics?

Secondly, in Karlsruhe, Ukraine's Yaroslava Mahuchikh scaled 2.02 m
for a fresh world under-20 indoor record. You will recall that this 18-year-old fought hard for the top position at last year's World Champs, surmounting a world under-20 outdoor record of 2.04 m for the silver medal - the same height as winner, Mariya Lasitskene...
