This great global meeting in Taipei was neatly sandwiched between the World Champs and the Diamond League finals, producing some startling performances, two especially worthy of the label, "World Class". The men's Javelin produced a pair of last-round throws that belonged within the elite ranks: local favourite Chao-Tsun Cheng added more than 4 metres to his best in reaching 91.36m. Following that enormous effort, German Andreas Hofmann came tantalizingly close with his throw of 91.07m which exceeded his previous longest throw by 2.28m - as you would appreciate, the crowd of mainly Taiwanese people were relieved and ecstatic when that final trial was measured and their man secured the gold medal.
